The University of Eastern Finland is committed to the goals set by the Council of Rectors of Finnish Universities, UNIFI, regarding sustainable development and responsibility, and these themes are integrated into all education to ensure that every student has the opportunity to explore them as broadly as possible. Due to their embeddedness into discipline-specific expertise, themes related to sustainability and responsibility are visible across all faculties and fields of study. The university also offers several study programmes and study modules focused on sustainability, in both Finnish and English, as well as sustainability-themed courses through the Open University.

Sustainability studies for all
The Studies for Sustainable Future module at the University of Eastern Finland provides all degree and exchange students with the opportunity to delve into issues related to sustainability from a multidisciplinary perspective. The module brings together sustainability-themed courses from various disciplines, allowing students to complete both basic and intermediate studies. Highly topical and valued even by employers, this module strengthens students’ sustainability competencies, regardless of their major subject. Its diverse offering reflects the University of Eastern Finland’s strong and broad-based expertise in sustainability.
The Sustainability Studies Network gives students the opportunity to take sustainability-themed courses from different higher education institutions and faculties.
