The next application period for Bachelor's and Master's Degree programmes September 2024 intake will be open from 3 January until 17 January 2024 (1. joint application).
Normally there is one intake per year and the studies start the following September. Starting with admissions for studies applicants will begin the application process on the national Studyinfo.fi portal where they can search for suitable programmes and begin the application.
There are two ways to apply to a higher education degree programmes in Finland: joint application or separate application. Both our Bachelor's and Master's programmes are using for the September 2024 intake the joint application form. Each applicant can fill in only one application form/application period, but with this one application it is possible to apply up to six different programmes.
After you submit your application you receive a confirmation email. This email includes a link for making changes to your application. Changes to the application form can be done until the end of the application period, but it is possible to upload documents to the application form 7 days after the application period has ended.
The UEF has not yet made a decision if it offers a waiver based on temporary protection for 2024. For more information about the temporary protection please see the website of Finnish Immigration Service.
- Check a list of Bachelor's degree programmes or a list of Master's degree programmes by field, and the programme you are interested in and make sure you know the admission requirements. Sign up for a language test well in advance (TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, PTE Academic), if required and/or necessary.
- When the application period begins, fill in the required information with care, upload all the required documents in electronic format and then submit the online application. You can also submit the application before uploading the documents (this is recommended).
- Required enclosures must be uploaded electronically to the application (recommended file types pdf and jpeg, max. file size 1.0 GB). Please see more information on How to submit documents.
- We accept scanned copies of the original degree certificates and transcripts as well as the official translations if the documents are not in English, Finnish or Swedish.
- We do not accept scans of photocopies unless they have been certified by the awarding institution.
- Please scan the original documents with care, always scan in color and remember to scan all pages. If your scan is blurred, discolored or the file is flawed it will not be accepted. The use of PDF format is encouraged, as this ensures that the files can be opened in all operating systems.
- The University of Eastern Finland also accepts electronic transcripts submitted through a few recognized sources. Please see Electronic Transcripts for details.
- Make sure your application enclosures are uploaded by the given deadline at 3 PM (EET). Also the language test results must be electronically available to the University of Eastern Finland by the deadline.

At the application state we require only scanned enclosures attached (uploaded) to the application form. Paper copies are not required during the application period.
Once you have filled out the online application, required enclosures must be uploaded electronically to the application form (recommended file types pdf and jpeg, max. file size 1.0 GB) by 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET). Please make sure that you upload each enclosure to the right place in the application form.
Collect the required documents. Information concerning the documents is available on the programme specific admission application requirements and also on your online application. There are certain requirements for the documents uploaded in electronic format:

If application documents are mailed in by a third party, e.g. your university officials, the admissions office will forward the documents to the programme coordinator for evaluation. These documents can be mailed either to Joensuu or to Kuopio campus:

If you send the documents by mail, kindly note that all documents coming from outside EU/EEA area need to go through custom clearance. This can be done via email. To make sure that the documents arrive in our university on time, you need to do the clearance beforehand by using this form: Private person’s declaration of goods imported from outside the customs and fiscal territory of the EU. If an amount is required and 0 € is not allowed, a sum of 0.01 € (or equivalent in your own currency) can be given.
It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents reach the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) by the deadline. UEF does not process any application documents that have arrived after the deadline.
