Application should include all the documents that are mentioned in the online application form. Information concerning the documents you need for admissions is provided by the programme you are applying to on the programme's website and at the national application portal Studyinfo.fi in programme descriptions.
1. Eligibility:
To verify your eligibility, you must submit educational documents to the University of Eastern Finland in electronic format as attachments to your application. Paper copies are not required during the application period.
University of Eastern Finland evaluates the authenticity of your educational certificates. Any malpractice (e.g. counterfeit documents or fraudulent information) will be reported to the authorities.
You are required to submit
• the scanned copy of the original degree certificate (in the original language) and an English, Finnish or Swedish translation of the degree certificate
The programmes will also conditionally accept applicants who have not graduated by the time the application period ends. Conditionally accepted applicants are required to
1) indicate their anticipated graduation date in their application and
2) submit the latest official transcript of records by the end of the application period.
After the conditionally accepted have finished their final degrees in 2024, they need to provide the documents to the University of Eastern Finland. Please check the deadlines from the Eligibility website.
Applicants who have completed their Finnish matriculation examination in or after 1990 or a vocational qualification in Finland in or after 2017 do not need to upload degree certificate as these are electronically available through Studyinfo.
2. Certification of English language skills
It is very important to the admissions process that applicants verify their language skills as required by the programme. No other means for proving language proficiency than the ones listed in the admission requirements of the specific programme will be accepted. No waivers to the language proficiency requirement are given. You need to find out the programme-specific language requirements from the website of the programme you are interested in or from Studyinfo.fi in the programme descriptions.
You are required to submit:
- a scanned copy of the English language test result or
- if the language test is not required, a certificate of completed secondary education is required. The language of instruction of the secondary education must be proven with a degree certificate, diploma or transcript. Please note that all teaching and assessments must be entirely in English.
Required documents must be uploaded on the online application form by 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
Applicants who prove their English language skills with the Finnish matriculation examination and have completed Finnish matriculation examination in or after 1990 do not need to upload the degree certificate as these are electronically available through Studyinfo.
How to submit documents
At the application state we require only scanned enclosures attached (uploaded) to the application form. Paper copies are not required during the application period.
Once you have filled out the online application, required enclosures must be uploaded electronically to the application form (recommended file types pdf and jpeg, max. file size 1.0 GB) by the given date 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET). Please make sure that you upload each enclosure to the right place in the application form.
Collect the required documents. Information concerning the documents is available on the programme specific admission application requirements and also on your online application. There are certain requirements for the documents uploaded in electronic format:
- We accept scanned copies of the original degree certificates and transcripts as well as the translations when they are required.
- We do not accept scans of photocopies unless they have been certified by the awarding institution
- Please scan the original documents with care, always scan in color and remember to scan all pages. If your scan is blurred, discoloured or the file is flawed it will not be accepted. The use of PDF -format is encouraged, as this ensures that the files can be opened in all operating systems.
If application documents are mailed in by a third party, e.g. your university officials, the admissions office will forward the documents to the programme coordinator for evaluation. These documents can be mailed either to Joensuu or to Kuopio campus.

It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents reach the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) by the given deadline. UEF does not process any application documents that have arrived after the deadline.
Verification of original documents (for students beginning in September 2024)
We require that all admitted applicants submit their educational documents (degree certificates and transcripts of records) for verification. For more information about the verification please see our website. It is also possible to send the officially certified copies to the programme coordinator if the programme is offered online.
If you are admitted and have proven your eligibility with a degree from a higher education institution (Bachelor's or Master's degree) you must submit the paper documents according to these country specific requirements. If the country your degree was given is not on the list, we require you to to follow the instructions on the verification website.
Please prepare to submit your documents to the university at the latest by 9 August 2024. Conditionally granted study right will be cancelled if the verification in the required manner is not done by the deadline.
If your educational documents are issued in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, official translations of them to one of these languages is also required.
