In most cases, you are eligible to apply for bachelor’s level studies in Finland if you are eligible to apply for higher education in your home country. An upper secondary education certificate is required.
An eligible applicant for bachelor’s degree programme has completed at least one of the following:
- Finnish matriculation examination
- International Baccalaureate (IB) degree
- European Baccalaureate (EB) degree
- Reifeprüfung (RP) degree or Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) degree in Finland
- Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification or a further or specialist vocational qualification as a competence-based qualification, or a comparable previous qualification as set in the Vocational Education Act (531/2017)
- foreign qualification that provides eligibility for higher education studies in the awarding country
- Advanced International Certificate of Education degree (AICE) in Finland or
- has the right to study towards a university degree in Finland
- holds a degree conferred by a Finnish higher education institution
- has at least a Bachelor level degree conferred by a foreign institution
Applicants who are in the final semester of their upper secondary education are also eligible to apply.
Submission of diplomas for verification
Applicants must upload copies of diplomas (with translations) on the online application form by 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
Applicants receiving their diplomas in 2024 must meet the following deadlines:
- Any other comparable upper secondary educational qualification which provides eligibility for University-level Bachelor’s studies in the country in question must submit the most recent grades with translation by 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
- The most recent transcript of a Bachelor level degree conferred by a foreign institution with translation by 24 January 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
- International Baccalaureate diploma (IB) and European Baccalaureate diploma (EB) predicted grades by 3 April 2024 at 3 PM (EET)
- Deutsches Internationales Abitur diploma (DIA) final grades by 30 April 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
- International Baccalaureate diploma (IB) and European Baccalaureate diploma (EB) final grades by 11 July 2024 at 3 PM (EET).*
- Any other comparable upper secondary educational qualification which provides eligibility for University-level Bachelor’s studies in the country in question final grades with translation by 11 July 2024 at 3 PM (EET).
- Bachelor level degree final certificate conferred by a foreign institution with translation by 31 July 2024.
If educational documents are issued in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, official translations of them to one of these languages is required.
*Applicants receiving an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma in spring 2024 must apply for a Transcript of Grades from the IB organization to be submitted electronically directly to the University of Eastern Finland by 11 July 2024 at 3 PM (EET). The IB organization will submit the final grades electronically.
