All applicants must have good skills in English and you must prove your English language skills when applying. You can indicate your language skills by taking one of the internationally recognised English language tests listed on this page. When taking the test you must choose University of Eastern Finland as a recipient of your results.
As a general rule, you do not need to prove your English language skills with a language test, if you have graduated from a higher education institution in Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand or in an EU/EEA country and your degree has been fully completed in English. The language of instruction of the degree must be proven with the degree certificate, transcript of records or Diploma Supplement.
It is very important to the admissions process that applicants verify their language skills as required by the programme. No other means for proving language proficiency than the ones listed in the admission requirements of the specific programme will be accepted. No waivers to the language proficiency requirement are given. You need to find out the programme-specific language requirements from the website of the programme you are interested in or from Studyinfo.fi in the programme descriptions.
Online studies or studies completed on offshore campuses outside the accepted countries cannot be used to indicate language skills, even if the degree-awarding institution is located in one of the accepted countries.
It is always the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the application documents reach the University by the deadline. We do not process any application documents that have arrived after the deadline.
If your are applying to more than one programme and verifying your language skills with a language test, we need to receive the test result only once. All language test results must be verifiable electronically from the test organizer.
If you are applying with one degree and indicating your language skills with another, you are required to submit educational documents regarding both degrees. You can only indicate your language skills with an incomplete degree, if you are applying for the studies with the same degree.
Language tests
It is up to the applicants to take the language test on time. It should be noted that it may take several weeks before the test results are available.
All language test results must arrive at the University by the given deadline, and language test results are accepted only electronically from the test organizer.
The language test certificates are valid for two years from the day they are issued and they have to be valid during the application period.
Most of the programmes require that the applicants have passing scores in an internationally recognised language proficiency test. Applicants must reach the minimum required test results to be considered eligible to the University of Eastern Finland. If the result of the language test is below the required minimum, the application will not be considered for the admission. No exceptions will be made.
