All applicants must have good skills in English and you must prove your English language skills when applying. Applicants must reach the minimum required test results to be considered eligible to the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). No exceptions will be made.
Language skills can be indicated by taking one of the internationally recognized English language tests listed below, or with a degree. When taking the test you should choose University of Eastern Finland as a recipient of your results where possible. You must also attach a scanned copy of the test result to the application for verification purposes.
The test result must be available by the end of the application period and it must be available for online verification at the latest 7 days after the end of the application period.
TOEFL, IELTS and PTE certificates are valid for two years from the day they are issued, i.e. the language test results need to be in effect between 31 January 2020 - 31 January 2022.
TOEFL iBT: minimum score 78 is required
Also TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL Essentials tests are accepted.
We need to receive test scores directly (electronically) from ETS. Applicants can order their score reports through their test taker profile by indicating UEF instituition's code 9779. Our university does not need any paper documents from the test organizer as we verify TOEFL test results in the online verification system provided by ETS.
We accept also MyBest Scores. Additional information can be found at ets.org/toefl
IELTS (Academic): minimum score 6.0
We accept test scores only directly (electronically) from the IELTS test organizer. On the application form you need to give the Test Report Form (TRF) number. This number must be written in whole as the results cannot be found otherwise. Please upload your test results report also to the application form.
PTE (Academic): minimum score 54
C1 Advanced: minimum score C
C2 Proficiency: minimum score level C1
YKI: A National certificate of language proficiency in English done at level 4 in all different areas. More information of YKI.
A language test is not required if the applicants hold one of the following:
• Secondary education or tertiary education in English in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, or the United States
• Finnish matriculation examination in English language, minimum grade of magna cum laude approbatur (M)
• International Baccalaureate degree (diploma completed in English, satisfactory completion of A level English exam (literature / language and literature / literature and performance), satisfactory completion of B level English exam, minimum grade of 5 (good).
• EB degree:
₋ L1, mother tongue (English) completed successfully.
₋ L2 – or L3 language (English) completed with a minimum score of 7.
• Reifeprüfung (RP) degree (German school of Helsinki) Satisfactory completion of English A (or a similar expected grade from upcoming DIA degree)
₋ Written scores are at a satisfactory level.
₋ Oral score being minimum of 8.
The language of instruction of the secondary education must be proven with a degree certificate, diploma or transcript. Please note that all teaching and assessments must be entirely in English.
Online studies or studies completed on offshore campuses outside the accepted countries/area cannot be used to indicate language skills, even if the degree-awarding institution is in one of the accepted countries.
