The Faculty of Health Sciences is the most diverse provider of education in health sciences in Finland. We educate experts and professionals for several central fields of health care in our advanced learning environments: our students are trained as physicians, dentists, pharmacists (Bachelor’s and Master’s levels) and nutritionists, and as experts of biomedicine, nursing science and health promotion. In addition, we are responsible for three international Master’s degree programmes at the university (General Toxicology, Public Health, and Biomedicine).
We offer specialist training in the fields of pharmacy, dentistry and medicine. The faculty also offers an opportunity to complete clinical biochemist training as part of the Licentiate of Philosophy degree. In the field of health sciences, the university offers the most extensive opportunities for continuous learning in Finland through, for example, the Open University.
The four doctoral programmes available in our faculty (Clinical Research, Drug Research, Molecular Medicine, and Health Sciences) are closely linked to our areas of expertise in research, providing postgraduate students with access to internationally recognised education and thesis supervision.

Research
We live longer than ever before, but brain diseases, cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes become increasingly common as we get older. Moreover, as the population ages, the prevalence of cancer increases, and musculoskeletal disorders make it harder to cope in everyday life.
Fortunately, the risk of all of these diseases can be reduced by healthy lifestyles. Our research has generated a vast amount of knowledge on the genetic background and risk factors of common chronic diseases. We keep finding ways to prevent diseases with healthy lifestyle habits, while also developing diagnostics and increasingly personalised and targeted lifestyle interventions and drug therapies.
Our research ranges from molecular-level mechanisms of diseases to effective and cost-effective care. Our goal is to make active living and healthy ageing available to an increasing number of people.
