We are a multi-faceted, networked and constantly developing interdisciplinary research community whose organization and practices provide high quality research, research-based teaching and social impact.
Our aim is to train future academic professionals to the labour market. We offer training to around 800 undergraduates per academic year on human anatomy and physiology, biomedicine, molecular biology and genetics. The undergraduates include students in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biomedicine and nutrition.
We also provide training in the Bachelor and Master courses in Biomedicine as well as in Sport and Exercise Medicine degree programmes. Beside our teaching duties, we are active in biomedical research and doctoral training. We conduct research ranging from population-based studies to molecular medicine to uncover basic mechanisms behind chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Master's Degree Programme in Biomedicine
The Master's Degree Programme in Biomedicine (BIOMED) is a unique combination of science education and medical competence offered by the UEF School of Medicine.
Research
Our research goals in the Institute of Biomedicine are to understand, treat and prevent chronic diseases. Our internationally recognized research ranges from population-based studies to molecular medicine to uncovering basic mechanisms behind Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Main research areas are carried out by active research groups under the leadership of professors and other senior researchers. We produce over 120 international peer-reviewed scientific papers each year.
We also host core units for cell and tissue imaging and bioinformatics offering research services from planning your study to completion.
