UEF's School of Pharmacy situates in Kuopio. We offer Bachelor and Master degree programmes in pharmacy and also provide International Master's program in Toxicology. We offer approximately 900 students the opportunity to become confident and competent professionals in pharmacy. Our graduates have high employment rates, and they work for example in common pharmacies, pharmaceutical industry, Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) as well as at research institutes and other regulatory agencies.
We undertake world-leading multidisciplinary research focused on drug development and the effectiveness of treatments, publishing 200 peer-reviewed articles annually. We offer post graduate training in our focus areas, including drug discovery, drug delivery, medicinal chemistry, toxicology, pharmacoeconomics and effectiveness evaluation with real-world data.

Nearly half of the nation's Bachelor's and Master's in Pharmacy are graduated from the School of Pharmacy. Bachelor of Pharmacy is a three year undergraduate degree that leads to registration which allows to work in Pharmacy in Finland. We offer students the opportunity to become confident and competent professionals in pharmacy. The programme includes in year two and three practicing in pharmacy or hospital pharmacy. It also gives students the chance to have practice abroad during the third year. The School takes part in the Erasmus scheme and other student exchange programmes. Bachelor's in Pharmacy degree entitiles to possibility to apply a two year Master's in Pharmacy programme.
The School of Pharmacy offers international master’s degree programme in general toxicology, which is not provided elsewhere in Finland. This 2-year programme leads to the degree of Master’s of Science and provides its students with the basic scientific knowledge and professional skills to carry out human chemical risk assessment.

Research
School of Pharmacy's research is focused on drug development. Our objectives are to identify novel drugs and to develop new targeted drug delivery technologies, as well as to appraise the safety of medicines and their metabolites. We also develop technologies and analytical methods and improve the manufacturing processes of medicines. Furthermore, we carry out research to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment (medications and procedures) and study the impact of political decisions concerning medicine.
The Platform for Drug Discovery and Delivery Technologies, which has a strong basis in research performed at the School of Pharmacy, is acknowledged in the University’s strategic research profile.
