- standard phrases and how to respond to them
- basics of word order and sentence formation
- fundamentals of noun and verb conjugation
- basic Finnish vocabulary, e.g., introductions, travel, and the learner's environment
Learning outcomes:
The student can greet others, introduce themselves, give a brief description of themselves and ask and provide information in Finnish. The student understands simple spoken and written messages and can produce them themselves. The student knows the most important features of Finnish and knows something about the Finnish way of life. The student knows basic vocabulary and structures.
The objective is to attain the level A1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
The course does not require previous Finnish studies. The course is aimed for complete beginners.
Modes of study: Independent online study and finishing assignments. Successful completion of the course requires the completion of course assignments within the specified schedule and a passing grade in the final exam. The student should reserve approximately 54 hours for course work.
Schedules: The course online learning environment is open from January 12 to June 8. Students can complete the course at their own pace. The recommended timeframe for completing the course is 6 weeks.
The course has no scheduled classroom teaching, but students can participate in tutoring via Zoom. The tutoring sessions are held weekly, on Fridays at 10-12. To participate, the student needs strong enough internet connection and microphone. Use of camera is also recommended.

By paying the study fee, the student receives a temporary right to study that entitles them to attend a particular course. The right to study is course-specific, and is required to complete the course as specified in the curriculum, covering both teaching and course exams.
