The objective of the course Circular economy as a societal change, essay is to reflect on the topic in a variety of ways through the themes of the Circular Economy as Societal Change, MOOC course and to utilize the material of the MOOC course extensively.

Essay completion time is limited and the essay will be written after completing the MOOC Circular economy as societal change, 3 cp.

Modes of study: Essay analyzing circular economy.

PLEASE NOTE! A student can complete the essay section only after having first completed the MOOC course as an open university student! The deadlines for the essay will be published in August at the latest. 

Students may register for both the MOOC and essay for the same semester. However, the essay won't be evaluated until the MOOC is completed. If you have completed the MOOC course in a previous year, you can now complete only the essay.

Study units cost 20 € / ECTS credit. This price holds for the academic year 2026-2027.

Right to study will cover the lessons and exams.

Fees for purchasing/lending literature are not included in the study fee.

Register for studies

The registration is binding. Please read the Open University payment and cancellation terms before registering.

If you cannot identify yourself via the Suomi.fi service but are able to pay using one of the following methods: Google Pay or Apple Pay, Visa or MasterCard, please register in the online service (choose ‘Skip identification’). Otherwise, contact the student affairs secretary (contact details below). Be prepared to verify your identity with an official ID after registration. 

Registration online:

  1. Go to the registration service using the button on this page. You will see information about the course, which you can review before registering. Add the course to your study cart. You can also add other courses to the cart before proceeding. 
  2. Log in via the Suomi.fi service (without Finnish identification methods, choose 'skip identification'), fill in your personal details on the registration form, and confirm your registration. Pay for the studies at the time of registration.
  3. Processing the registration usually takes 2–5 business days, and at most 10 business days. After processing, you will receive an email with a link to the instructions for starting your studies. The message will include a link to our beginning instructions page where you can find all instructions on how to get started. Please read the beginning instructions carefully.

UEF username 

  • If you are studying at the University of Eastern Finland for the first time, you will receive separate instructions on how to activate your UEF username. 
  • If you already have a UEF username, change your password. 

Your username will receive the necessary access rights once your study right begins.
