This course introduces students to health technology business. Students learn to understand the importance of customer orientation in business development and in the commercialisation of technologies.
The course develops business thinking and provides an overall view of the components of business operations. It also deepens students’ understanding of commercialisation processes and of the customer perspective as the foundation for business activity.
After completing this course, the student is able to:
- define the key principles of business
- recognizes customer orientation in business development
- describe the perspectives of different stakeholders in business
- analyse and assess various business, marketing and regulatory aspects
The target group of the training program is people who develop, produce and use medical devices, as well as those interested in the health technology sector. It is suitable for example for:
- personnel of health technology companies (especially start-ups)
- people starting out in the health technology sector
- those working in business positions related to health technology (commercialisation, export, sales, marketing)
- those involved in co-creation (research, development, and testing)
- persons who use medical devices, are responsible for procurement or supervision of the safe use of devices in the wellbeing services counties and
- RDI staff and teachers in higher education institutions
Due to funding requirements, the participant must be a resident of Finland.
The course consists of independent study in an eLearn learning environment (online studies, lecture recordings and online assignments) on your own schedule. It is graded by the successful completion of online tasks as pass/fail. The amount of independent work is c. 27 hours.
The course is available from 5.5. to 15.12.2026. You can work in either English or Finnish.

This course is free of charge for the duration of the JOTPA-funded Terveysteknologian osaamistarpeet-project, which covers the whole period this course is available.
