Update 9 February 2026: Loans from the KUH Medical Library
The books belonging to the KUH Medical Library collections will be transferred to the Kuopio Campus Library collections after the KUH library facilities close on 2 April. Read below how to proceed if you currently have loans from the KUH library or plan to borrow books from there.
- You can renew your loans normally in UEF Primo and Tuudo, even while the collections are being moved.
- Automatic renewals for KUH staff will for the time being remain unchanged.
- The maximum loan period of 600 days will remain as it is. A reservation made by another customer will prevent renewal, as before.
- You may return books to the KUH Medical Library until 2 April. After that, books must be returned to the Kuopio Campus Library in Snellmania. There is a book drop hatch at the main entrance of the Snellmania building where you can leave books outside library opening hours.
- If you have a reservation for a KUH book, it will remain valid even though the collection is moving. You do not need to take any action regarding your reservation unless you wish to cancel it. You will receive a pickup notification by email as usual.
- The last date on which KUH can be selected as the pickup location for reservations is 26 March. Reservations made after that date will be picked up from the Kuopio Campus Library.
- Interlibrary loan items will be picked up from the Kuopio Campus Library after 2 April.
- Due to the transfer of the collections, there may be delays in the availability of KUH library materials, although we aim to move the materials to the Kuopio Campus Library as quickly as possible.
- If you think you need a KUH library book in early April, please plan ahead and borrow the book before the library operations at KUH end.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these changes. If you have questions about your loans, please contact library @uef.fi.
19.1.2026: The operation of the KUH Medical Library ends
The library and information service cooperation at Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) has been based on a cooperation agreement between the Wellbeing services county of North Savo (PSHVA) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF).
PSHVA has terminated the cooperation agreement until the end of April 2026. The physical facilities of KUH Medical Library will close on 2 April 2026 and at the same time the library will cease to operate at KUH. A new service agreement for library and information service cooperation is currently being negotiated.
After the completion of the library's operations, the local services of the library are available at the Kuopio Campus Library.
More details about the closing of the library will be announced later.
