Contents: During the course, students practice oral and written communication related to their discipline and profession in English. Students are introduced to the writing process and drafting of presentations, learn vocabulary specific to their field, and rehearse and give an oral presentation on a topic in the subject. Students also prepare a written assignment on a topic in their field of study.
Learning outcomes: The student can/is able to:
- Discuss topics related to their field in English
- Apply intercultural communication skills as well as English language conventions in discussions, presentations and other oral assignments
- Write texts related to their field with sufficient fluency
- Prepare and give a clear presentation on a topic related to their field
- Give and receive constructive feedback and develop their skills based on the feedback provided
- Work independently and in a group and evaluate their own learning.
Academic English course according to UEF degree requirements
Study method: The student is required to actively participate in online teaching which can be for all the group or in small groups. The course includes, for example, written individual and group assignments and discussions. Open University students must reserve 54 hours of studying for the course. It is completed as 2 ECTS.
Teaching is carried out as online/remote learning. Active participation in online learning and the course includes assignments and exercises. Scheduled classes are mandatory. Adequate technical equipment (e.g., a sufficiently fast network connection, headphones, microphone, and webcam) and the ability to use the required technology are required for online participation.
Schedule: 30.1.–8.5.2025. Lectures on Fridays at 10-12 (NOT 6.3., 3.4.), on Friday 6.2. at 9-11 and on Thursday 23.4. at 10-12.
