University of Eastern Finland is a partner in two new consortia of the Strategic Research Council

Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland are involved in two new consortia selected for funding by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) established within the Academy of Finland.

Professor of Law and Ageing Anna Mäki-Petäjä-Leinonen’s research group at the Law School is a partner in the Safeguarding Welfare in Times of Pandemics: Towards Collaborative Governance of Syndemics (WELGO) consortium, which is led by the University of Helsinki. Other partners in the consortium include Tampere University, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, the University of Vaasa, and Demos Helsinki. The consortium constitutes part of the Pandemics as a Challenge for Society (PANDEMICS) programme.

Professor of Health and Social Economics Ismo Linnosmaa’s research group at the Department of Health and Social Management is a partner in the Economic and Social Sustainability across Time and Space in an Ageing Society (SustAgeable) consortium, which is led by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. Other partners in the consortium include VATT Institute for Economic Research, the University of Lapland, and the Labour Institute for Economic Research. The consortium constitutes part of the Demographic Changes – Causes, Consequences and Solutions (DEMOGRAPHY) programme.

The Strategic Research Council announced the new consortia to be funded on 13 September. All in all, twelve consortia were selected to the programmes. The consortia focus on long-term research aimed at identifying solutions to major societal challenges. The granted funding amounts to a total of 44 million euros within three SRC programmes, with the University of Eastern Finland’s share amounting to 1.2 million euros.
