Philosophical Faculty grants for finalizing the doctoral dissertation

The Philosophical Faculty is inviting applications for doctoral dissertation grants. The grants are intended for the faculty’s attending postgraduate students who aim to complete on their doctoral dissertation in 2020. The grant will be awarded for 2–3 months between 1st October to 31st December 2020. The maximum amount of the grant is € 1 500/month and it requires full-time studying. Only applicants at the final stage of their dissertation are eligible to apply.

Students are not allowed to engage in a full-time, paid work during the grant period. Students who have received a grant shall commit to giving the faculty a written statement of their use of the grant after the grant period.

Written applications should be addressed to the Philosophical Faculty. The application should indicate the period for which the grant is applied for, any possible earlier grants awarded for the same purpose, any pending grant applications, as well as the applicant's personal data and contact information. The applicant should also give an e-mail address to which the decision can be sent.

The application should include a brief research plan (no more than 4 pages including lists of references) written in compliance with the following structure:

  1. Theme of the research and its background
  2. Research problems and objectives
  3. Materials and methods
  4. Current stage of the dissertation and schedule (e.g. how many articles published; how many pages/chapters of the monograph are complete)
  5. References/literature

The application should also include a supervisor’s statement of the stage of the dissertation and an estimation of its completion. The applicant have to request for the supervisor to deliver the statement by e-mail to: FiloDoctoralstudies@uef.fi. If supervisor writes several statements, she/he must notify the ordering of applicants.

The application deadline is Monday 7 September 2020 at 3 p.m. The application and the attachments should be sent by e-mail, as one PDF file, to: FiloDoctoralstudies@uef.fi. Belated applications will not be accepted.

All applicants will be notified by e-mail of the grants awarded by the end of September.
