High-resolution mass spectrometer

UEF Chemistry Department at Joensuu accomodates a high-resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer (Bruker APEX-Qe FT-ICR instrument) which is unique in Finland and among only a few similar systems in Europe. This instrument is based on a high-field (12-tesla) actively shielded and refrigerated superconducting magnet and is equipped with electrospray (ESI) and atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI) ion sources. The system is also interfaced with a microchip-based infusion robotics (Advion NanoMate Triversa) and a high performance liquid chromatography system (Dionex Ultimate 3000 RSLCNano). The instrument allows mass spectrometric analysis of both polar and non-polar analytes, polymeric samples as well as mixture analysis (e.g. oil samples).
