Course content:
Basics of general business and international business in the German-speaking countries, intercultural communication with a special focus on business basics and strategies in the German speaking-countries.

Study objectives:
After completing the course the student
• knows basic concepts of international business and is familiar with basic Business vocabulary in German
• is able to successfully apply this knowledge in a multicultural/international context
• is well informed about the cultural diversity, economic developments and business potential of economies in the German-speaking countires
• is familiar with the cultural differences between Finland and the German-speaking countries
• knows basic strategies to engage in intercultural communication in an international business context (in particular in the German-speaking countries)
• is familiar with important aspects of German business/office culture
Generic competences: digitalization, ethics, leadership and development, internationality, sustainability and responsibility, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise.
Finnish name of the course: Kansainvälistyvän liiketoiminnan johdantokurssi: saksankielinen liiketoiminta-alue.
Lectures (16 h), assignments (25 h), independent study (40 h).
In addition to the contact hours, the students read written materials, do self-study exercises, write and present seminar presentations.
