Content
In this course, the student practices how the most typical advanced statistical methods can be applied to solve epidemiological study questions using SPSS Statistics software.
Objectives
After completing the course, the student will be able to
1) apply the most typical advanced statistical methods to solve epidemiological study questions and report their results using appropriate tables and diagrams,
2) use SPSS Statistics software to reach the first learning outcome.
Study methods
Self-learning: Method 1: guided SPSS learning assignments. Method 2: a learning diary based on a textbook.
The course is based on self-learning, attendance is not controlled.
The student may utilize AI in learning, but it is not allowed to ask AI to execute any assignments.
You need to have access to SPSS software to study this course. SPSS software can be downloaded onto your personal computer after registration and receiving right to study.
Course can be studied between 5.9.2025 - 22.5.2026. Registration is open 4.8.2025 - 28.2.2026.
Study materials
No compulsory literature. Supporting literature will be informed in eLearn Moodle.
Evaluation criteria
0-5. Learning assignments will be graded on a scale from 0 (Fail) to 5. Threshold for passing the course >50% of guided self-learning assignments executed correctly.
The student may try to raise the grade by completing the assignments but only if the first attempt has resulted in Fail or 1/5.
Prerequisites
All students can be admitted but basic knowledge in biostatistics is recommended, such as Biostatistics in Epidemiology I (TL00DH79).

By paying the study fee, the student receives a temporary right to study that entitles them to attend a particular course. If the course is continuously open for registration, the maximum time to complete the course is from 1 August to 31 July for that academic year.
Literature acquisition costs and borrowing fees are not included in the tuition fee.
