Content: Russian for beginners! On the course, students practice the communicative situations listed in the learning outcomes and their relevant vocabulary, phrases and structures: question sentences, gender of nouns, prohibition words нет and не, personal and possessive pronouns, numbers 1-100, clock times and days of the week. The student learns how to use the nominative and prepositional cases. The student gets familiar with the present tense of verbs.
After completing this course, the student is able to read and write using Cyrillic alphabet and knows the common grammatic rules of Russian pronunciation.
The student is familiar with the script and common expressions of politeness and can use Russian to say hello and goodbye, introduce themselves, ask questions, order at a café, ask and give directions, and talk about themselves, their family and studies. The student is able to use the relevant Russian structures in the above situations.
The objective is to attain the level A1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Study methods
The course is mostly independent study in Moodle and pair exercises but there are Zoom-lectures too. The Zoom-lectures are optional.
Schedule: The course is organized from January 29 to April 21. The first Zoom lecture (on February 15 at 16-18) is compulsory. Please note that independent studying starts before the first Zoom lecture.
The teaching language is English.
There are 10 places reserved for open university students on this course. The course is organized in cooperation with the KiVANET cooperation network. If you are a degree student in a Finnish university, please register according to the instructions of the KiVANET network.
Study units cost 15 € / credit point. This price holds for the academic year 2023–2024.
