Study Finnish flexibly online through UEF's Open University!

These Finnish courses help you develop language skills from proficiency levels A1 to B1.

The Finnish language courses are held as online and distance teaching.

The course Finnish 1A is an independent online course with voluntary weekly tutoring meetings.

The other courses include mandatory lessons. Active participation to the lessons is needed to successfully complete these courses (80% of lessons).

The courses on offer during the academic year 2026-2027 are:

  • Finnish 1A 2 ECTS credits, autumn 2026
  • Finnish 1B, 2 ECTS credits, spring 2027
  • Finnish 2A, 2 ECTS credits, autumn 2026
  • Finnish 2B, 2 ECTS credits, spring 2027
  • Finnish for work, 2 ECTS credits, autumn 2026
  • Finnish 3, 4 ECTS credits, spring 2027
  • Finnish 5, 4 ECTS credits, autumn 2026

The courses are listed in the recommended order of completion, with Finnish 1A starting from 0 level.

NB! The teaching languages on this courses are English and Finnish. You need a B1-B2 level (CEFR scale) in English to be able to successfully complete the course.

Some courses have a placement test which you can take before registering to find out if your language proficiency is suitable to attend the course.

By paying the study fee, the student receives a temporary right to study that entitles them to attend a particular course. The right to study is course-specific, and is required to complete the course as specified in the curriculum, covering both teaching and course exams.
