University of Eastern Finland tightens its coronavirus restrictions on the Joensuu Campus for the remainder of the year – also Sykettä sports services in Kuopio are discontinued

The City of Joensuu is now at an acceleration phase of the coronavirus epidemic, and this has an effect on the activities of the University of Eastern Finland on the Joensuu Campus.

In accordance with the recommendations issued by the regional coronavirus working group, teaching on the Joensuu Campus is mostly organised online for the remainder of the year. Only teaching that is deemed necessary to be organised as in-person teaching on campus will be organised so. Exam-facilities will remain open as usual. The restrictions pertaining to the Joensuu Campus are in force until the end of the year. The spring semester’s teaching is to be planned in accordance with the university’s earlier decisions.

In the acceleration phase, gathering sizes are further restricted to 20 people. This restriction applies to all gatherings, including teaching, meetings, public examinations of doctoral dissertations, etc.

Staff members working on the Joensuu Campus are recommended to switch to remote work, with their duties permitting. However, it is still possible to work on campus, in accordance with the university’s hybrid model for work. Meetings on the Joensuu Campus should be organised online whenever possible.

Services and customer service points will stay open according to current opening hours in order to avoid crowding. Wearing a mask is strongly recommended when visiting and using the services on campus. Opting for take away lunch is a good and safe alternative that also reduces crowding.

The university’s facilities cannot be reserved by students for unofficial, leisure time events organised in the evenings. Reservations will only be accepted for official events of the student associations (such as annual meetings).

External facility reservations are accepted while observing national recommendations, recommendations issued by the regional coronavirus working group, and orders given by the State Regional Administrative Agency.

Kuopio City remains at the baseline phase – Sykettä sports services discontinued as a precautionary measure
