University of Eastern Finland awarded more than 3,000 academic degrees in 2022

Last year, more than 1,300 Bachelor’s and more than 1,600 Master’s degrees, and around 150 doctoral degrees, were completed at the University of Eastern Finland.

The number of academic degrees completed at the University of Eastern Finland in 2022 exceeded 3,000. The university awarded a total of 1,312 Bachelor’s degrees, 1,626 Master’s degrees and 149 doctoral degrees.

The university’s 29 Master’s degree programmes taught in English awarded a total 262 Master’s degrees, nearly 80% of which were completed by international students. Most Master’s degrees taught in English were completed in computer science (47), in forest sciences (41), in law (37) and in business studies (36). At the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, nearly half of the Master’s degrees were awarded to international students.

“Our goal is to triple the intake of students to our programmes taught in English by 2030. This is equivalent to an intake of approximately 1,500 students and about 50 programmes taught in English. Our current programmes are attractive, and they’ve also been successfully expanded, which creates a good foundation for this kind of development,” Academic Rector Tapio Määttä says.

With regard to the university’s programmes taught in Finnish, the highest numbers of Master’s degrees were awarded by the degree programme in medicine (153), and by the degree programme in class teacher education (110). An increase in the number of Master’s degrees awarded was seen especially in the Law School (147), in the School of Computing (75), and in the Institute of Biomedicine (44).

The number of Bachelor’s degrees awarded increased most in pharmacy (146) and in special education (40). The highest number of doctoral degrees was awarded by the Faculty of Health Sciences (57).
