UEF’s degree programmes taught in English to admit nearly 600 students

The application period to the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes taught in English at the University of Eastern Finland opens on Wednesday, 3 January 2024, and closes on Wednesday, 17 January 2024, at 15:00 Finnish time. The number of students to be admitted to the programmes amounts to nearly 600, which is almost a hundred more than the previous year.

Opening today, the call for applications via the Finnish joint application system invites applications to five Bachelor’s degree programmes and to more than 20 Master’s degree programmes taught in English at UEF, most of which will start in September 2024. As new openings, the university introduces the Bachelor’s degree programme in Sustainable Forest Bioeconomy, two Master’s degree programmes in the field of business, i.e., Accounting and Finance, and Sustainability Leadership. In addition, to meet the global demand for experts, the popular Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Information Technology will also start running on the Kuopio Campus in addition to the Joensuu Campus, doubling the number of students.

“Expanding international education is a strategic choice for the University of Eastern Finland. We want to support the vitality of Eastern Finland and respond to the skills needs of local businesses. We have invested particularly in the new Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in English, for which we see an increasing demand,” says Academic Rector Tapio Määttä

According to Määttä, the university’s goal is, by 2030, to have about 1,000 new students enrol in the English-taught programmes each year.

The Bachelor’s degree programmes welcome applications from both Finnish and international applicants with a suitable upper secondary qualification, while the Master’s degree programmes welcome applications from Finnish and international applicants with a suitable Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.

Citizens of Finland and the EU/EEA countries, as well as Switzerland, are not required to pay for tuition. Citizens of other countries are required to pay for tuition, with the annual tuition fee ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 euros, depending on the programme. Students who are required to pay for tuition can apply for scholarships and partial waivers on the application form.

A total of 2,000 international students from around 100 different countries are currently studying at the University of Eastern Finland in exchange and degree programmes.
