UEF Board approved the budget for 2021

The Board of the University of Eastern Finland approved the university’s budget for 2021 in a meeting held on 14 December. In the upcoming year, there is an increase in the university’s overall funding, which makes it possible to make additional investments in the university’s activities. The budget has been prepared so that the expenses and revenues are in balance, and the goal in 2021 is to achieve a positive result of 0.4 million euros.

Compared to the 2020 budget, the university's overall funding will increase by 6.8 million euros, most of which is governmental funding granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture.  The university has concluded an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021–2024. The additional funding will, among other things, be allocated to the recruitment of teachers as required by the increases in student intakes, and to the launch a degree programme in logopedics.

To support the development of research, the University of Eastern Finland will invest strategic funding in the development of the activities of its interdisciplinary Research Communities, as well as in an increasingly systematic creation of research infrastructures. The impact of the university’s activities will be strengthened by forging new partnerships and by creating open innovation ecosystems in collaboration with other actors.

The university is also running a fund-raising campaign until the end of June 2022. Next year’s goal is to raise 2 million euros as donations. Funds received as donations will be transferred to reserves and they will become available for use after the campaign has ended. The Finnish government will match the private capital raised during the campaign by a sum that is a maximum of 2.5 times higher than the private capital raised.
