16 new Academy Projects, one new Clinical Researcher post at UEF

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Biosciences, Health and the Environment announced today that it will grant funding for 80 new Academy Projects, 12 of which are at the University of Eastern Finland. One of these projects is a consortium project within which two UEF researchers secured funding. All in all, the Research Council’s funding to new Academy Projects at UEF amounts to nearly 5.4 million euros.

The Research Council also announced that it will fund ten new Clinical Researcher posts, and one of them is at the University of Eastern Finland. The Research Council’s funding for the Clinical Researcher post amounts to roughly 200,000 euros.

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Culture and Society also announced its funding decisions today. The Research Council granted funding for 59 new Academy Projects, four of which are at the University of Eastern Finland. The Research Council’s funding to these four new Academy Projects at UEF amounts to nearly 1.9 million euros.

 

Research Council for Biosciences, Health and the Environment: new Academy Projects at UEF (in alphabetical order)

Christina Biasi’s project, A Combined Experiment and Modelling Approach to Quantify the Nitrous Oxide Budget of Permafrost Regions (N-PERM) / Consortium: N-PERM was granted 400,000 euros of funding.

James Blande’s project, Plant-plant communication in conifers: above- and below-ground resource allocation under abiotic stress, was granted 499,371 euros of funding.

Merja Heinäniemi’s project, Capturing the Cell State Space from Genomics Data into Models of Treatment Resistance in Childhood Leukemia, was granted 490,141 euros of funding.

Mikko Hiltunen’s project, Mechanisms of Microglia-specific Genetic Variants Associated with Alzheimer’s Disease, was granted 492,587 euros of funding.

Kristiina Maria Huttunen’s project, Innovative and Proactive Solutions for Better Brain Health, was granted 500,000 euros of funding.

Marjukka Kolehmainen’s project, Protein Quality of Plant Cell Cultures in Relation to Digestive Physiology / Consortium: Cell2Eat, was granted 300,000 euros of funding.

Annamari (Ari) Laurén’s project, The Hidden Role of Gases in Trees / Consortium: HidRoGaT, was granted 296,654 euros of funding.

Ville Leinonen’s project, Clinical and Experimental Study on Human Neuronal Circuitry and Cellular Heterogeneity Impacted by Early Alzheimer's Disease -related Pathology in iNPH Patients (CLEAR) / Consortium: CLEAR, was granted 300,000 euros of funding.

Tarja Malm’s project, Clinical and Experimental Study on Human Neuronal Circuitry and Cellular Heterogeneity Impacted by Early Alzheimer's Disease -related Pathology in iNPH Patients (CLEAR) / Consortium: CLEAR, was granted 399,348 euros of funding.

Jaakko Pohjoismäki’s project, Abort, Retry, Fail? Searching for the Essential Mitochondrial DNA Maintenance Pathways, was granted 499,560 euros of funding.

Heikki Tanila’s project, Sleep-related epileptic spiking in early Alzheimer’s disease, was granted 475,943 euros of funding.

Arto Urtti’s project, Controlled Pharmacodynamics with Melanin Targeted Drug Delivery to the Eye, was granted 250,000 euros of funding.

Seppo Ylä-Herttuala’s project, New Therapeutic Approaches for Endothelial Dysfunction, Myocardial Ischemia and Heart Failure, was granted 492,700 euros of funding.

Sami Väänänen’s project, Intelligent bone – Deep learning to support diagnostics of osteoporosis and fracture risk prediction from dual-energy absorptiometry, was granted 200,126 euros of funding.

Olga Davydova-Minguet’s project, Transnational Death: Practices of Death and Remembrance in the Transnational Everyday on the Finnish-Russian Border, was granted 497,667 euros of funding.

Emilia Korkea-aho’s project, Expertise in and out of Government. The Bureaucratic Revolving Door and its Regulation in EU Member States, was granted 461,876 euros of funding.

Eeva Nykänen’s project, Disability & Dignity, was granted 483,510 euros of funding.

Elisa Tiilikainen’s project, Old-age Social Exclusion in Home Care: Prevalence, Meanings and Intervention, was granted 412,926 euros of funding.
