The coronavirus pandemic has increased general interest in how viruses enter the brain, and what their effects on the brain are. There are receptors on the surface of some brain cells which allow the coronavirus to penetrate the cell.

Maiju Karjalainen graduated from UEF's and Toyohashi University of Technology’s (TUT) joint Master’s degree programme last autumn. The double degree included studies and an opportunity to do an internship in Japan.
