University of Eastern Finland, University of Eastern Finland’s LUMA Center, and the Photonics Flagship PREIN warmly welcome you to the Valoa perheille event on Saturday, 9 May 2026, from 10:00 to 14:00 at the Joensuu Art Garden Botania. Valoa perheille event is being organised for the sixth time, and its popularity has grown year by year, bringing photonics – the science of light – closer to children and young people.

This spring, we will explore the fascinating world of colours through light. The theme of the event is colours: where they come from, why we see them the way we do, and what surprising things light reveals about the colours in our environment. The programme offers fun and insightful activities for the whole family.

Children (approximately 3–12 years old) can take part in an exciting colour adventure, uncovering the secrets of colours through the science of light. The adventure is suitable for the youngest children together with an adult, and for older children independently. As is tradition, participants can also make a Mother’s Day gift during the day—naturally using colours and photonics. In addition, you will have the opportunity to explore the enchanting surroundings of the Joensuu Art Garden Botania, where colours shine and inspire everywhere.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone. Come and enjoy a bright spring day with your family, learn something new, and celebrate Mother’s Day in the spirit of colours and light.
