The University of Eastern Finland, together with Teollisuusneuvos Heikki Väänänen Fund, will organise the 8th Karelia Symposium under the theme “Food from Wood”. The symposium will take place at Joensuu Science Park, in the seminar hall Temple of Challenge, on 25 April 2023.

The programme features topical sessions on how wood components and the wood industry’s side streams could provide raw materials for producing food ingredients for humans and animals. Could wood-based materials also be used as packaging material for food? The symposium brings together Finland’s leading experts in the field.

With its research addressing food products, the University of Eastern Finland is also involved in the development of the relevant themes. The speakers of the symposium are Marjukka Kolehmainen from the University of Eastern Finland, Kirsi Mikkonen from the University of Helsinki, Emilia Nordlund from VTT Ltd, Hanna Koivula from the University of Helsinki and Kati Riekkinen from the University of Eastern Finland. Carlos Gomez Gallego from the University of Eastern Finland will moderate the panel discussion. The language of the symposium is English.

Please see the programme and registration on Karelia Symposium webpages. Registration is open until 14 April.
