The University of Eastern Finland will withdraw from the social media platform X. The university will no longer use its main official account, @UniEastFinland, to post content or be otherwise active on X. This withdrawal does not affect the university’s presence on any other social media, and the university continues to be active on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
The university’s reasons for withdrawing from X are varied. UEF has used X, and its predecessor Twitter, as a platform for external communication and interaction for more than ten years. The university strives for consistent, active and evolving communication on all platforms it uses. Recent years on X, however, have seen unpredictable and rapid changes, making systematic communication and its development on the platform increasingly difficult. Moreover, the university fosters a culture of communication that is constructive and respectful, and that broadens the horizons of those involved. On X, this has not been the direction of travel, and the university’s main official account on the platform no longer meets the needs and expectations it was set up for.
The university’s units, projects and research groups maintain their channels of communication independently and may continue to be active on the platforms they deem relevant for their target audiences and needs.
The University of Eastern Finland would like to thank its followers and other users on X for the years of active communication and dialogue.
