Membership in the EUCEN provides the university with access to European development networks, project collaboration and advocacy.
The University of Eastern Finland has been accepted as a member of the European University Continuing Education Network, EUCEN. Having operated for more than 32 years, EUCEN is the largest multidisciplinary association for University Lifelong Learning in Europe. The network brings together approximately 800 institutions in Europe and over 300 in the United States.
The University of Eastern Finland’s membership was confirmed at the Enhancing University Lifelong Learning Culture in Europe conference held in Lille, France. The three-day event addressed topics such as strategic management of lifelong learning, learning ecosystems and flexible study paths and courses. The university was represented by Sanna Iskanius, Deputy Director of the Centre for Continuous Learning.
"In today’s world of work, skills need to be continuously updated, and universities play a crucial role in this. I’m very pleased about the University of Eastern Finland now joining the EUCEN network. At the conference, I had the opportunity to share insights from Finland’s national strategy for continuous learning. Our networks were strengthened, and collaboration gained new, concrete directions,” Iskanius says.
Membership in the EUCEN network provides the University of Eastern Finland with direct access to European development networks, EU-level advocacy and EU project collaboration in the field of lifelong learning. Network members also engage in topical discussions on major themes affecting the higher education sector, such as the technological transformation and accessibility.
"We want to be a brave pioneer and innovator in the field of University Lifelong Learning. Membership in the EUCEN network not only keeps us updated on international developments in the field but also gives us the opportunity to influence these developments at the European level,” says Tero Karjalainen, Director of the Centre for Continuous Learning at the University of Eastern Finland.
