The University of Eastern Finland continues as an academic partner of the international Millennium Technology Prize for the period 2026–2029.

The Millennium Technology Prize, awarded by Technology Academy Finland (TAF), is a distinguished international recognition for technological innovations that improve people’s quality of life and address global challenges. Valued at one million euros, the prize has been awarded since 2004.

Technology Academy Finland provides an international platform for interaction between industry, the academic community and public decision-makers. The University of Eastern Finland has been an academic partner of the Millennium Technology Prize since 2018. The university’s high standard of research and education include natural sciences and health sciences as well as social sciences and the humanities.

“The university’s involvement in the Millennium Technology Prize is built on our strong expertise in research and innovation, as well as on our close partnerships with companies. The involvement of Business Finland from the beginning of 2026 as a strategic partner of the Millennium Technology Prize will strengthen the links between research, innovation and industry. Together, this creates a promising platform for growth for new innovations, co-creation and genuinely impactful collaboration, and supports the visibility and impact of the Millennium Technology Prize in the global scientific community. The global profile of the prize opens new avenues for showcasing the impact of our research, for interdisciplinary initiatives and for international networks,” says Minna Hendolin, Director of Impact at the University of Eastern Finland.

Nominations for the 2027 Millennium Technology Prize are open until 27 February 2026. The evaluation of nominees involves a pre-selection committee, which includes Dean and Professor Kari Lehtinen from the University of Eastern Finland.
