School of Pharmacy secures MSCA funding for the development of nano-carriers for ocular drugs

Professor Arto Urtti at the University of Eastern Finland School of Pharmacy has secured nearly 200,000 euros of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships funding for the recruitment of Postdoctoral Researcher Natalia Zashikhina to a new research project addressing ocular drugs.

The project will examine the use of lipid nanoparticles in transporting mRNA into ocular tissues. and it seeks to develop nanoparticles for efficient transportation of RNA to target cells either as eye drops or as local intraocular injections. In the long term, this may advance the treatment of ocular diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and uveitis.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships within the EU's Horizon Europe programme seek to promote international mobility of postdoctoral researchers.
