Polish Ambassador Visits the University of Eastern Finland

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) welcomed the Ambassador of Poland to Finland, Tomasz Chłoń, to its Joensuu Campus on Friday, 21 November 2025. The visit highlighted the university’s research strengths, international networks, and academic connections to Poland.

During the visit, Ambassador Chłoń was introduced to UEF’s strategic research themes and several of its key projects. The programme included presentations from the Karelian Institute’s Director Prof. Petri Kahila and researchers representing the KTL and the BoMoCult (Borders, Mobilities and Cultural Encounters) research community. Markku Hauta-Kasari – the vice-Dean presented the Faculty of of Science, Forestry and Technology. Each unit showcased its core activities, interdisciplinary approaches, and international collaborations.

Ambassador Chłoń, who had an academic career himself, expressed interest about KTL’s internationally recognised expertise in border studies, mobility research, and regional development. The Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology impressed the ambassador with its work in ICT and  photonics.

The visit also included an opportunity for the ambassador to meet with Polish UEF alumni, Piotr Bartczak and Alicja Fajfer, who shared their experiences of the Finnish academia and reflected on how their time at the university has supported their careers.

Ambassador Chłoń’s visit is an opportunity to tighten cooperation between the Finnish and Polish academia.
