The University of Eastern Finland is supporting researchers who have applied for ERC funding in a new way.
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) offers a new form of support for European Research Council’s ERC Starting and Consolidator applicants, who have been selected for ERC panel interviews but have not been granted ERC funding.
The aim of the new UEF Grant is to support researchers in the development of their new ERC applications. The UEF Grant is 75,000 euros per year for maximum two years.
“We want to support those who have been successful in the demanding funding process so that they can receive a positive funding decision in the next application round. In this way, we encourage promising careers and invest in the growth of our research funding,” says Vice Rector Jussi Pihlajamäki.
The first UEF Grants for ERC applicants will be granted to the ERC Consolidator applicants, Associate Professor Aija Lulle from the Department of Geographical and Historical Studies and Academy Research Fellow Lukas Kohl from the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The funding period is from the beginning of 2026 to the end of 2027.
The recipients of UEF Grant for ERC applicants need to be employed by the University of Eastern Finland during the funding period. The UEF Grant ceases if the researcher receives ERC funding. ERC grantees will receive the university’s strategic funding intended for ERC researchers. An ERC applicant can receive UEF Grant for ERC applicants only once.
