Working Life Collaboration in Technology Education

We engage in diverse collaboration with the working life within the technology education programs as part of the course curriculum. You can participate in courses in the following ways:

• Alumni Story: How have your studies at the University of Eastern Finland in the field of natural sciences or mathematics influenced your career path? How have you applied the skills you have learned in your work? By visiting courses and sharing your own alumni story, you can serve as an example and deepen students' understanding of how academic knowledge translates into a career.
• Guest Speakers: Professionals from various organizations are welcome to participate in courses within the technical education programs to discuss their organization's operations and current skill requirements.
• Student Projects: Within the technical education programs, students take part in courses where they work on tasks provided by companies and other organizations. These courses are particularly suitable for solving small-scale research problems. Moreover, broader and more complex research topics can serve as excellent starting points for theses.

Mentoring provides support both for students in the early stages of their studies and for those transitioning into the workforce towards the end of their education.

We can organize mentoring workshops in collaboration with your organization, creating meaningful interaction opportunities between representatives from the workforce and students. This facilitates the development of skills essential for the professional environment.

Every year each of the technology education programs is assigned its own corporate mentor. The corporate mentor can arrange various workshops, visits, and other activities aimed at strengthening students' connections with the working life. The forms of mentorship activities are planned in collaboration with the partner organization.

We regularly organize job fairs to support connections with the working life. During these events, organizations can conduct workshops, host visits, and promote topics for theses as well as internship opportunities.
 

Your organization has the opportunity to provide a pathway to working life for the students through internships. Through internships, students get the opportunity to enhance their professional skills in practical settings and build networks with companies and other organizations.

Does your organization have a problem or challenge that a student could solve in their Bachelor's or Master's thesis in engineering?

A thesis project could provide valuable insights, practical methodologies, products, or services for your organization. Alternatively, it could focus on experimenting with and evaluating new working methods in various operational environments. A thesis is a scholarly document following the practices of the field. The student is guided through the process by an experienced supervisor from the university.
