UEF’s Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year will be held online on 3 September

The exceptional situation caused by the pandemic is also a challenge to academic traditions. This year, the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year at the University of Eastern Finland will be different than before and will, for the first time, be held entirely online.

The ceremony streamed live from a studio on the Kuopio Campus. The event will be held in Finnish and in English. The Finnish part of the ceremony will be hosted by Editor Anne Heikkinen, and the English part by Director of Language Centre Lauri Tolkki.

In addition to an opening address to be delivered by the Rector, the ceremony also features a speech by Mikko Helander, President and CEO of Kesko Corporation, as well as an interesting speech by Aino Peltonen, Chair of the Executive Board of the Student Union, on the effects of the exceptional situation and online teaching on students.

The Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year starts at 12.40 with an opening ceremony service, and the ceremony programme will start at 13. The University of Eastern Finland Choir Joy will also perform in the event.
