University of Eastern Finland, together with University of Eastern Finland’s LUMA Center and the Photonics Flagship PREIN, invites you to participate in the “Light for Families” family event on Saturday, 8 November 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Joensuu’s Art Garden Botania!

The “Light for Families” event is being organised for the fifth time, and year after year it has grown in popularity while bringing photonics – the science of light – closer to children and young people.

This autumn, we will dive into the fascinating world of insects – through light. The theme focuses on small but important insects and studying them with the tools of photonics. A day full of fun and insightful activities awaits the whole family!

For children (approximately 3–12 years old), there will be an exciting adventure to uncover the secrets of the insect world using light science. The adventure is suitable for younger children together with an adult, and for older ones to explore independently.

During the day, visitors can also make a traditional Father’s Day gift – naturally using photonics. In addition, you can enjoy the enchanting surroundings of the Art Garden Botania, where insects are bustling about and inspiring exploration.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone. Come and spend a bright autumn day with your family, learn something new, and celebrate Father’s Day in the company of insects and light!
