Kuopio Health Insights, an event promoting collaboration, innovation and business in the health sector, will be held for the fourth time in August. This year’s topics include drug and vaccine development, health data and health technology solutions. There will also be a Pitch & Match session for investors and start-ups. The event is open to everyone interested.
Kuopio Health Insights 2025 will take place at Kuopio Music Centre on 20–21 August. Registration is currently open. You can register for the whole event or just for the first day. Reduced ticket prices are available for University of Eastern Finland staff and students, as the university is a member of the Kuopio Health innovation ecosystem.
The university is also a partner in the event and the speakers include many experts, alumni and partners of the University of Eastern Finland.
Pitch your health solutions to investors
Are you a health company, startup, scaleup or R2B team looking for funding, feedback or future partners? Kicking off the event on Wednesday 20 August, the first-ever Kuopio Health Pitch & Match will give you the opportunity to sit down for pre-booked 1-on-1 meetings with investors who are actively looking for promising health innovations. Pre-register to connect directly with investors who are genuinely interested in next-gen health solutions – all in just 6 minutes per meeting. Finally, the audience will hear the investors’ own pitches.
Top speakers and networking
Wednesday's Pharma & Vaccine Development session will explore the opportunities and challenges in the region and in Finland. Speakers include Seppo Ylä-Herttuala, Director of the National Virus Vector Laboratory, Eino Solje, Director of UEF Brain Research Unit, Antti Poso, Professor of Drug Design, and Antti Nurmi from Charles River. The panel discussion will also include Arto Mannermaa, Director of the Biobank of Eastern Finland, and Sami Miettinen from Abomics, a company focusing on pharmacogenetics. In the evening, a cruise on lake Kallavesi will offer networking opportunities.
On Thursday 21 August, the morning session on Health Data & Analysis will examine the topic from the perspective of healthcare prioritisation, care practices, medical device development and the EU's EHDS regulation. Speakers include Samuli Saarni, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Tampere, Elizabeth Jennings from Venture Atlas Labs in the US, Sandra Liede, Senior Legal Expert at Healthtech Finland, Health Data Analytics Research Team Leader Mika Hilvo from VTT Finland, and Tuomas Mäkynen from Orla DTx, which develops digital therapeutics. Other panelists include Leo Kärkkäinen, Professor of Embedded Systems, and Petteri Sveins from Wellpro Impact Solutions.
The afternoon session on Digital & Industrial Solutions will look at the commercialisation and exploitation of health technology solutions. The presentations and panel discussion will include company perspectives from Niina Huikuri of Bittium, Ulla-Maaria Koivula of ThingLink, Mikko Hallanoro of Marginum, Lauri Sippola of Gosta Labs and Tuukka Eloranna of Medikro Oy, among others. Juha Töyräs, Director of Research and Innovation, will look at the role of the wellbeing services county, and Kullervo Hynynen from the University of Toronto will discuss medical applications of focused ultrasound. There will be an opportunity for networking at the closing dinner at the harbour restaurant Luoto Kuopio.
