A warm welcome to Seminars in Health Sciences seminar on Wednesday 13 May at 13:00–14:00 in SN201, Snellmania building.

Associate Professor Kaur Alasoo, from the University of Tartu, will give a talk on the topic

From GWAS to function: bridging the colocalisation gap.

The seminar will be hosted by Professor Minna Kaikkonen-Määttä.

Kaur Alasoo is an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu. His research group focuses on large-scale analysis and harmonisation of genomic datasets to advance the interpretation of genome-wide association studies. Kaur studied Computer Science at the University of Tartu, completed MSc in Systems Biology at Aalto University (Finland) and Instituto Superior Technico (Portugal) and obtained his PhD degree from University of Cambridge and Welcome Sanger Institute. His research group is most well-known for the eQTL Catalogue, which is the largest collection of uniformly processed human gene expression and splicing QTL datasets. More recently, Kaur has turned his attention to exploring how various other high-throughput molecular measurements (such as plasma metabolites) can reveal the context-specific effects of genetic variants on protein function.

The seminar is organized by Faculty of Health Sciences and is open to everyone interested.
