In celebration of Africa Day at UEF, we are honored to invite you to a guest lecture focusing on decolonization, restitution, and African art.

About the Lecture
How does the return of cultural heritage reshape a nation? In this lecture, Prof. Patrick Effiboley will review the historic repatriation process of the Danxome Treasures to the Republic of Benin – a milestone in the modern debate over African art retrievals and museum decolonization spanning the last decade.
The repatriated treasures include a royal throne returned by Finnish National Museum (Kansallismuseo) to Benin in 2025.
About the Speaker
Prof. Patrick Effiboley is a distinguished art historian specializing in African art, specifically from the perspective of the repatriation of museum artifacts. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters on African arts from an authentic African perspective.
Prof. Effiboley holds an MA from the Amsterdam University of the Arts and a PhD from Université Paris-Nanterre. He has also served as an A. W. Mellon Fellow (2014–2016) at the Centre for the Creative Arts of Africa (University of the Witwatersrand) in South Africa.
