In 2026, the global landscape of human displacement has reached a critical juncture, demanding a sophisticated and multifaceted public health response. As conflict, political instability, and environmental changes continue to drive millions from their homes, the traditional models of emergency aid are being reshaped by long-term integration needs and the rapid advancement of technology. Public health in this modern era is no longer just about immediate triage; it is about sustaining health equity, managing chronic conditions in protracted settings, and integrating displaced populations into national health frameworks without compromising the resilience of host systems.

This international seminar, organized by the Institute of Public Health & Clinical Nutrition (UEF) in collaboration with the Medical University of Warsaw (Poland) and Yarmouk University (Jordan), provides a vital platform to examine these dynamics. This event is part of annual course "Public health in humanitarian crises". By bringing together diverse perspectives from Poland’s response to the Ukraine's refugee crisis, Jordan’s experience with protracted Palestinian and Syrian displacement, and the acute humanitarian challenges in Bangladesh’s Rohingya camps, we aim to bridge the gap between frontline management and rigorous academic evidence. Participants will also explore how health diplomacy and digital innovations are defining the future of refugee care.

The day opens with a keynote address on "Global Health Diplomacy and Refugee Rights in 2026," focusing on the integration of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for those in transit or under temporary protection.

II. Regional Case Studies & Research

The core of the seminar is divided into three regional blocks. Each block features a 30-minute management report followed by peer-reviewed research presentations:

  • The Ukraine Crisis: Focusing on rapid health system integration and systemic resilience within the European context.
  • The Palestine & Syria Crisis: Examining the public health complexities of long-term urban displacement and infrastructure strain in Jordan.
  • The Rohingya Crisis: Addressing infectious disease surveillance and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) logistics in high-density camp environments in Bangladesh.

III. Innovation & Synthesis

The final sessions pivot to the future, with a keynote on "Digital Innovations in Refugee Healthcare," exploring AI-driven triage and tele-health advancements. The day concludes with a Roundtable & Synthesis session where faculty leads will establish a roadmap for joint transcontinental research initiatives.
