Schools, Departments and Institutes of the Faculty of Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a unique entity and it houses a total of five schools, departments and institutes:

  • A. I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences
  • Department of Nursing Science
  • Lab Animal Centre
  • School of Medicine
  • School of Pharmacy

The School of Medicine is the biggest one in the faculty and comprises the Institute of Biomedicine, the Institute of Clinical Medicine, the Institute of Dentistry, and the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition. The A. I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences also houses two departments i.e. the Department of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine and the Department of Neurobiology. Furthermore, the Faculty of Health Sciences coordinates the Biocenter Kuopio (BCK) which is an umbrella organization for research in molecular medicine, drug research and biotechnology.
