About the SchoolThe mission of the School of Pharmacy is to teach pharmaceutical subjects at the highest educational level, and to promote scientific research into drugs and the application of this research for the benefit of society at large. The School of Pharmacy at the University of Eastern Finland started in the present form in 2010, but was originally founded in 1973 in the University of Kuopio. The staff is about 150, and approximately 700 graduate students aspire towards Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy degrees. We also run the Master’s Degree Programme in General Toxicology and Environmental Health Risk Assessment. In addition, there are about 100 post graduate students in the School, who conduct their advanced studies towards the Ph. D. degree. The Pharmacy curriculum is divided under seven disciplines:Social Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biopharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Clinical Pharmacology.The last discipline is mainly for the students of Medicine and Dentistry, since the School has university wide responsibility for the teaching of Pharmacology. The School also houses the Drug Research and Development Centre, which offers a dynamic and flexible model for industrial collaboration. |
