Integration of social welfare and health care services
The integration of services into well-functioning entities that are flexible and client-oriented constitutes a key success factor in the social welfare and health care service reform that is currently ongoing in Finland. Offering services by a single organisation in charge encompasses both horizontal integration (social welfare and health care services) and vertical integration (primary and specialised services).
The University of Eastern Finland has set the development of research and education relating to the integration of social welfare and health care services, and its effectiveness, as a strategic objective. Our multidisciplinary university has excellent opportunities to achieve a leading national and an internationally recognised position in this field.
We study the effectiveness of the social welfare and health care service reform that is currently ongoing in Finland.
STN IMPRO is a multidisciplinary research project seeking to develop new analysis methods for evaluating health and social services, and to support the development of more equal and cost-effective services. Research team analyses social welfare and health care structures, accessibility of care, care paths as well as the outcomes, costs and cost-effectiveness of care, both before and after the health and social services reform.
