Master's Degree Programme in Linguistic Sciences
This Master's degree programme (MDP), taught entirely in English, provides an opportunity to study language, linguistics, language technology and translation from a variety of perspectives. The programme is focused on language as medium of communication in various contexts. The programme consists of three thematic sub-programmes with overlapping basic components followed by field-specific special training.
Each sub-programme has advantages that are of particular currency in present-day linguistics: technological applications are increasingly important in linguistic research and the translation industry, while globalization and linguistic diversity in societies call for skilled experts in the fields of language policy, education, and communication. The objectives of the MDP include in-depth understanding of the focal issues, theories and methods of the corresponding sub-programmes to the extent that after completing their master's studies, students are able to carry out independent research and are eligible to pursue doctoral studies in their field of specialization.
Besides academic jobs (research and/or teaching), graduates are envisaged to find career paths, depending on the sub-programme, in language technology firms, large translation agencies, localization and documentation houses, and in the fields of translator training, language planning, and language policy.
The application round for studies beginning in 2017 is closed. The next application round will open in November 1, 2017 and close on January 31, 2018 at 15.00 (GMT+2).
