Minor Subjects in the School of Theology

he School of Theology offers two minor subject choices for students from other schools of the University of Eastern Finland: basic and intermediate studies in general theology and basic and intermediate studies in Orthodox theology.

Classical language (Biblical Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Latin and during some academic years also Aramaic and Syriac) courses are open to all students of the University of Eastern Finland, i.e. the right to study theology as a minor is not required.

Minor subject studies in General Theology (60 ECTS) qualify students to work as subject teachers of Evangelical Lutheran religion, provided that all other qualification criteria are met.

Minor subject studies in Orthodox Theology (60 ECTS) qualify students to work as subject teachers of Orthodox religion, provided that they meet all other qualification criteria.

General Theology as a Minor Subject

The right to study General Theology (in the Western Theology study programme) as a minor subject is open to all students of the University of Eastern Finland.

General Theology minors complete the basic (25 ECTS) and intermediate studies (35 ECTS). Minor subject study right makes students eligible to attend study units included in these study modules. Basic and intermediate studies can be completed at the same time.

In-depth descriptions, modes of study and registration timetables can be found in WebOodi: Philosophical Faculty --> School of Theology --> Western Theology --> Minor subject: General Theology.

In some study units, there is necessarily no teaching every year. When no teaching is offered, students may complete the study unit in question by taking an examination on set literature.
