It is possible to receive funding for doctoral studies from various funds and foundations as well as to be employed in a UEF doctoral student position or in an Early Stage Researchers positions in projects funded by the Academy of Finland, Tekes (Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation) or other funding agents. University also offers grants for finalising doctoral dissertation.
Funds and Foundations
Funds grant financial aid for, for instance, writing of the dissertation, covering the dissertation's printing costs, arranging the public defence of the dissertation, and travel costs to meetings.
The Aurora database includes funding organisations for sciences, arts and culture for both project funding and personal grants. The database includes Finnish and foreign funding opportunities, which are available for Finns or those residing in Finland. The database lists some 800 funding organisations and new funding opportunities are added on constantly to keep the database up to date. The information on Aurora is collected directly from the funding organisations.

UEF PhD student positions
55 PhD students are employed annually as early stage researhers in the UEF PhD student positions in the Faculty of health sciences. A student can be nominated on these positions for maximum of four years. Positions are open for both already registered and new PhD students.
A call for these positions is open annually in the spring/summer. Call for positions starting on January 1 2018 has closed May 8 2017.

Remuneration for travel expenses
Faculty of health sciences allocates remuneration for congress trips. Application deadline is twice annually: 31.3. and 31.8.
Dissertation printing cost compensation
Faculty of Health sciences compensates dissertation printing costs up to 400€ / dissertation. Compensation is available only when printing is ordered from printing house that University has an agreement with (Grano and Juvenes). As agreed between printing house Grano or Juvenes and Faculty, the defendant should announce when ordering the printing, that an invoice of max. 400€ including VAT, can be sent directly to the Faculty. In case the printing costs are less than 400€, the one invoice can be sent to the Faculty. As a reference, the name of the defendant, date of defense, and code 400010, should be mentioned in the invoice.
