Joensuu is located in the eastern part of Finland, close to the Russian border and about 440 kilometres north-east from the capital Helsinki. Joensuu can be easily reached by air via Helsinki and there are several train and coach connections per day from Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, as well as from many other cities in Finland.

Parking

The Joensuu Campus is a no parking zone, and parking is allowed in designated parking areas only. A university parking permit (for staff) is required in most parking spaces. During the winter season, parking in spaces with electricity is allowed only for persons who have purchased a relevant permit.
Parking permits (for staff) can be obtained from the university's porters.

Visitor parking

Visitors need a guest parking permit to  park their cars in the university's parking areas in which a permit is required. In some parking areas, parking is allowed without a permit in some or all of the spaces. A parking disc (limited time) is required in some parking spaces.
Parking permits for visitors can be obtained from the university's porters.

Should the university's own parking areas be full, there is an affordable pay parking area right next to the campus on Yliopistokatu. This area is maintained by Joensuun pysäköinti Oy.

Parking in the parking areas on campus is monitored by the city's parking inspectors.

Kuopio

Kuopio is located in the eastern part of Finland, some 380 kilometres north-east from Helsinki. Kuopio can be easily reached by air via Helsinki and there are several train and coach connections per day from Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, as well as from other cities in Finland.

Parking

Parking on the university campus is allowed in marked parking spaces only. Most of the parking spaces are reserved for university parking permit holders. During the winter months, parking in spaces with electricity is only allowed for those who have purchased a permit.

Visitor Parking

There are visitor parking areas next to the Canthia and Snellmania buildings. Parking is allowed for four hours with a parking disc. There is also a visitor parking area behind the Melania building.
