Department of Social Sciences | Postgraduate studies in social psychologySocial psychology can be continued at the Kuopio campus of the University of Eastern Finland after a Master’s degree in social sciences on to a licentiate or a Doctoral degree. Examination regulations provide that the eligibility for postgraduate studies is a person who has completed a basic degree (Master’s degree) in the education in question or who has completed an equivalent domestic or foreign degree and whom the Education Unit has deemed to otherwise be sufficiently equipped with knowledge and skills. The application process for postgraduate studies in social psychology begins with contacting Professor Vilma Hänninen (vilma.hanninen@uef.fi), with whom the questions of doctoral research, eligibility for postgraduate studies and other start-up postgraduate studies is discussed. The dissertation research topic is desired to be related to loosely defining welfare, mental health, or health. The social psychology postgraduate seminar meets approximately once a month to deal with students' plans and manuscripts. In addition, joint postgraduate training seminars are organized, for example, with those taking up psychology and guidance training at the University of Eastern Finland. Social psychology participates in the activities of the social psychology member school of the national Finnish Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences (SOVAKO), which comprises joint postgraduate courses offered by various university units of social psychology. Postgraduate students also participate in the University’s-, Faculty’s and departments’ joint postgraduate training events. More information on postgraduate studies at the Department of Social Sciences can be found on the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies website. |
